September 2016 was the sixth Ironman Wales triathlon. Approximately two and a half thousand athletes take part. It’s known to be one of the most grueling challenges in the Ironman calendar.
The triathlon competition course covers most of the south of Pembrokeshire and involves a 2.4 mile open water swim starting at Tenby’s North Beach, followed by a 112 mile two loop bike ride around the Pembrokeshire lanes following some spectacular coastal roads, culminating in a 26.2 mile run in and around the historic town of Tenby. Athletes have only 17 hours to complete it all!
